Yangon is the former capital of Burma and one of the most popular destinations in Myanmar with its eclectic mix of colonial past and traditional Burmese culture.
One way to get an in-depth glimpse into Burmese culture and history of this city is by discovering it’s culinary culture and flavours and participating in a cooking class is a great way to do this. But we offer a cooking class in Yangon with a difference, a cooking class that creates social change and helps disadvantaged youths.
Started by an Australian Non-profit , this cooking school also doubles as a training school for young locals that need a hand up. Through teaching cooking classes with the help of an experienced, volunteer, english speaking guides, students get the oppotunity to improve their english and gain valauble work skills to equip them for getting a good job to improve their lives and the lives of their family.
During this half day cooking school the trainees will give you a tour through the market teaching you about the exotic flavours of Burmese cooking. The trainees particularily love this as they can speak with confidence about the ingredients found in the market building their confidencein English speaking.
After you market trip you will get cooking tranees will give you instrcutions and background on each dish, cuisnes of which include Burmese, Shan and Rakhine.
The money earnt from these tours goes to the traineese and is spent on their education and accomodation.
